“In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary”. ~Aaron Rose
In this exhibition, Elizabeth is showing a range of still life paintings of everyday ordinary objects rendered using traditional techniques and a tonal palate. She is keen to explore the relationship of the objects to each other and how the light falls on them. She is particularly interested in using the “chiaroscuro” technique (Italian for light-dark) and refers to the balance and pattern of light and shade in a painting. This technique enables her to develop strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. The composition of the paintings is made up of everyday objects but the control of light and dark creates drama and an excitement in the work.
